Carlsbad celebrated a couple grand openings on Thursday, and it is great seeing our community continue to grow.
Domino’s Pizza held its opening for its second Carlsbad location on National Parks Highway. The restaurant is the 100th for businessman Brian Bailey, who began his career with Domino’s delivering pizzas on Lea Street and worked his way up, first to manager, and then to owner. This is really a great success story. Domino’s even brought in individuals from its corporate office to join in this celebration, as we’ve heard we have had one of the busiest pizza places in the chain.
Home2Suites by Hilton has also opened up on National Parks Highway and held its ribbon cutting on Thursday. Additional locations such as Home2Suites helps stabilize hotel prices, which allows us to attract tourists while also meeting the needs of the energy industry. These businesses also add more local jobs in Carlsbad and create a stronger tax base. Congratulations to the Insignia Hospitality Group and Greenstreet Construction for completing this beautiful facility.
We have also learned that two local businessmen have become husquavarna distributors, which is a company that includes those robotic lawn mowers you are seeing more of around town. Adam Walterscheid and JR Doporto are in the process of setting up partnerships and testing these mowers out. This would certainly be a good way to provide support to the workforce. We wish them the best of luck in their business. Doporto is also working with the Boys & Girls Club on planning his next fishing derby. We’ll have more information on that soon.

COVID-19 testing will be available from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Monday (Sept. 27) in the front parking lot of the civic center.
There was another nearby earthquake reported on Thursday. This one had a magnitude of 1.5 and was a little more than 30 miles south of Whites City. We will provide updates on earthquakes in our vicinity as information becomes available.
