Carlsbad Sports Update


It was another good weekend for the undefeated Cavegirl soccer team, who won two very tough matches. The Cavegirls beat La Cueva on Friday in overtime, 2-1, and then edged Rio Rancho, 1-0. Rio Rancho was ranked first in the state going into Saturday’s game, while the Cavegirls had been ranked second. The Cavegirls host Las Cruces on Friday. 

The Carlsbad Cavemen varsity football team earned a 19-0 Homecoming win over Coronado on Friday. The Cavemen, 2-1, will play Roswell on Friday. 

Carlsbad’s varsity boys soccer team lost to Lovington, 6-0. The Cavemen will play Highand on Friday. The Cavegirl volleyball team lot to Silver on Saturday, 3-1. They’ll play at Portales on Sept. 16 and host Mayfield on Sept. 18. 

Carlsbad’s cross country team has a home meet scheduled for this Saturday at the beach bandshell. 

Finally, Trevor Rogers went 4.1 innings in a 6-2 loss to the Braves on Friday. He allowed four runs but picked up six strikeouts.
