Obituary for Allan Wilbourn

A memorial service is scheduled for 10 am Friday, September 3, at Harvest Fellowship for Allan Wilbourn of Artesia, New Mexico.

Allan, 69, died on Friday, August 27, 2021 in Las Cruces, New Mexico.

David Brunson will officiate at the services. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Terpening & Son Mortuary.

Allan was born on July 22, 1952 in Blythe, California; the son of Jay Wilbourn and Nadine Barnes Wilbourn. He graduated from high school in Las Cruces, NM. He then attended NMSU in Las Cruces where he met, and later married Debora Trone in 1974. They moved to Artesia NM, shortly after they married.

Allan first worked in construction and was a building contractor, prior to going to work at FLETC. He began his FLETC career in May, of 1989 at the Artesia training center where he faithfully served for 32 years before retiring on July 17, 2021. Allan held various positions at FLETC-Artesia, including in EEO, Information Technology, Facilities Maintenance, and Master Planning. He finished his outstanding career as the Deputy Division Chief of the Artesia Administration Division. When he retired, he was the longest serving employee at FLETC.

In earlier years, Allan was very active in the Elks and held many leadership positions there. He was an avid golfer and very active with the Artesia Country Club.  He served as president in 2005.  He and Tim Baize took turns as the president of the Men’s Golf Association for over 20 years.   He loved all things about airplanes and flying, and was a pilot, owning his own plane at one point. He also enjoyed hunting and especially enjoyed annual trips to hunt elk in Wyoming with several of his closest friends. He and Deb also shared many hunting trips, shooting classes, and shooting challenge courses together. Most of all he loved his family and cherished spending time with them. He and Deb liked to take their girls and grandchildren on trips where they could experience things together and create lasting memories.

Allan was preceded in death by his wife Deb, who passed away just 15 hours earlier, on August 26, 2021, his parents, a sister Jan Carrico, and a nephew Scooter Carrico.

Survivors include his daughters Amanda Wilbourn and Karli Wilbourn; sisters Martha Ash and husband Darrell, and Judy DuBeau; a brother Wes Wilbourn; grandchildren Caedmon Leggett, Presley Leggett, and Hendrix Leggett; nieces and nephews Sara Georgi and husband Geoff, Stacy Bush and husband Keith, Scott Wilbourn, Kelly Wilbourn and Kate Wilbourn, Shawna Austin and husband Lee, Stephanie Nunez and husband Michael; numerous great nieces and nephews; numerous cousins and other relatives.

Allan was a great husband, dad, and friend, as well as a consummate professional and a cherished teammate. He will be missed by all who knew him.
