The end of the school year is always such an exciting and busy time. It is so much fun for the kids to be counting down the days, and to realize that many of those last days are pretty much days of fun. These last days are special for the Seniors and their families, as the fact that their high school career will soon be over is beginning to truly sink in. The thoughts of “this is my last . . .” began to occupy their minds. Excitement, happiness, sadness. All types of emotions are felt as the school year begins to wind down. After last year, I think this year’s end of the year is much more meaningful to the kiddos and to the parents.
The thing about the school year is that they give you a calendar right up front. You know from day one what day will be the last. You know from day one what days will be holidays, what days will be testing days. You are given that information up front so you know. Wouldn’t it be great if life were that way? Or would it?
As we go through life, we have no true calendar of our days. Only God knows the number of our days. Only God knows what is on the road in front of us. Whether it is good or bad, only God knows what lies ahead. Sometimes we think it would be nice to have a clue about what is coming. But would it really? I think about the things I have been through in my life. If I had known what all was coming, would I have ever continued on? And to not continue on would have been to deny myself blessings that were mine along the way, even in times of tragedy. Yep. I am pretty glad God holds my calendar and sends His Holy Spirit to be my guide and my comforter along the way. It is almost like He had it planned!
We do not know how many days we have left. We do not know what lies on the road ahead. This is the very reason that we must be prepared. We must be ready for that day when our life changes, or that day when our life ends. How do we prepare for this unknown? It is so simple.
Step one, give your heart to Jesus. Fully and completely, give your heart to Him. Ask Him to be Lord of your life. Do not think for one second that you can relegate Him to second place. He deserves first place in your life.
Step two, ask Him to forgive your sins. Daily. He has plenty of forgiveness to go around. You cannot “outsin” the depth of His forgiveness. He has a storehouse waiting for you. He forgives and He forgets. He wipes your slate clean.
Step three, live for Him. Each day, get up and live for Him. Look for opportunities to serve Him by serving others. Talk to others about the forgiveness and the new life you have found in Him. Make sure others are ready for that day, just as you are.
We have no way of knowing what lies ahead, but we do know the One who holds the calendar. Put your trust in the One who is the Keeper of your days.
Put your trust in God. The One True God. The One who makes the difference.
