2020 Census Results

Census-2020

The U.S. Census numbers are in – some of them. In an update Monday afternoon, Census officials revealed a population count for the country of 331,449,281. New Mexico did not gain or lose any spots in the House, but seven states, including California, each lost a Representative. Texas gained two, and Colorado, Florida, North Carolina, Oregon and Montana each gained one seat.

New Mexico’s population grew by 2.8 percent over the past decade, making it one of the slower-growing states in the West.  More details numbers, such as the population change to Carlsbad and Eddy County, were not made available on Monday. You can watch the Census update yourself by visiting https://www.census.gov/newsroom/census-live.html.

Local Census numbers will help for a variety of reasons, including business recruitment, possibly obtaining additional representation and even with meeting some COVID-19 gating criteria.
