NM teachers could be next in line for COVID-19 Vaccine

FNMD Headers CovidUpdate

Dr. Laura Parajon with the New Mexico Department of Health says more than 40,000 New Mexicans have received the COVID-19 vaccine so far.

Tuesday, city leaders held a news conference and updated multiple topics about COVID-19, including how the vaccine will be rolled out, and who will among the first to receive it as it arrives in New Mexico

Dr. Parajon says medical workers and first responders top the list. She said the elderly and vulnerable are next to get the vaccine.

“You want to protect people who are most at risk of getting sick so the next group is the 75 plus group, they’re the highest group that gets sick and also the highest rate of death is in that group,” Dr. Parajon said.

She said teachers will also be high up on the vaccine rollout.

“When you talk about front-line essential workers, that’s the next group, teachers are part of that group,” she said
