Craig Stephens and John Heaton are the chair and co-chair of our higher education task force. They’ve asked for the public’s assistance with the community effort to transition the New Mexico State University-Carlsbad branch campus into an independent college. The state’s Department of Higher Education has asked us for some additional information, and we’d like that packet to include a show of community interest. You can sign the online petition here.
Due to COVID concerns, it is much harder to get a petition out than it normally might be. If you are not a fan of online petitions, we will have a petition downstairs at city hall for you to sign instead by Wednesday. Our goal is to have a locally governed independent college which will focus on the needs of this community by developing partnerships with businesses and a variety of colleges.
