Carlsbad carries on Christmas!
WOW! It has been a year none of us will ever forget. While it is easy to dismiss 2020 as the year we all fell apart, the Carlsbad Chamber of Commerce is proud to have persevered in the fight to keep one of the most beloved annual community events alive despite all the setbacks and obstacles brought forth during this unprecedented time in history.
Communities and organizations across the country have been forced to repeatedly cancel event after event this year, but when the deadline to decide the fate of the annual Christmas on the Pecos approached in September, the Carlsbad Chamber of Commerce chose to brainstorm and adapt to the current world we live in. Rather than accept that this would be the first time in 29 years that Christmas on the Pecos did not deliver joy and cheer to all of New Mexico, staff and board members worked endlessly to develop a Covid-Safe Christmas on the Pecos. We felt compelled and obligated to fight for the event’s survival now more than ever and were optimistic from the beginning that we could reach a safe compromise between restriction and celebration in order to bring much needed joy and cheer to the approaching holiday season.
Everyone involved in the decision to carry on Christmas on the Pecos this year acknowledged that it would not be easy or inexpensive. However, the overwhelming outpouring of support we have received outweighs any and all obstacles we continue to face. Debby in Albuquerque emailed:
Additionally, we are grateful for support from the City of Carlsbad, New Mexico State Tourism Department, and the event’s title sponsor Sendero Midstream.
As long as public input continues to echo messages like the one above, Carlsbad will Carry on Christmas!
