Making a Difference

I have stood here at my computer all day, all week. I have looked at this screen each day. I stayed up late on Tuesday, so I could post the local winners of the election. I have stood here each day since Tuesday, visiting with God about what to say this week. What to say to a nation embroiled in confusion and, I guess division. A nation confused about what is going on. A nation wondering wherein lies the truth. One side says this. The other side says that. Honestly, how on earth do we ever know who to trust! When we hear what appear to be legitimately conflicting reports, how on earth do we discern the truth!

We scroll social media quickly until we find a report that matches what we want to hear. We roll our eyes as “the other team” spouts off one thing or another. When does this end?

With me, it ends here. It ends today. I am tired of watching and waiting when I have known all along who the true victor is in all this. The victor is Jesus Christ our Lord. No matter what. End of story. Politics is an ever changing entity. It has taken on a life of its own, I would say in the last 12 years or so. We knew who were Republicans and we knew who were Democrats and we still loved them and did business with them and had them over for supper. It did not matter. Now, suddenly it seems to be life and death. But it is not.

Life and death is the struggle between good and evil. The struggle between serving God or not. There are only two choices there. You are either making the choice to serve God or you are making the choice to not serve Him. It is honestly that simple. I ask you now, are your words serving God? Or are they serving your own interests and the hate you feel for “the other team?” Are your actions drawing people to know the Savior you claim to serve? Or are they driving them away?

As Christians, we have one job and one job only. That job is to “Love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.” That is it. All that is required. If you are loving God with all your heart, you won’t be spouting hate for anyone else who disagrees with you. If you are loving Him with all your soul, your soul will be concerned for those souls around you who may not know Him. If you are serving Him with all your mind, you will be resting today and going about your business knowing that no matter what happens, God will be in control, as God has always been in control. Certainly, He lets life play out around us, but He is ALWAYS able to use whoever is in power for His own purpose. He can change the hearts of those in power, if they need changing, and trust me, all our hearts need changing. He, the One who parted the Red Sea, who stopped the sun in its tracks, who raised His only Son from the grave, is certainly able to work in this country today and everyday.

I am asking you today, for your own sanity and the sanity of those around you, put your trust in Him.

I am asking you today, for your own eternity, put your trust in Him today. Why would He ever let you down? He will not.

He is actively working in this madness we see around us, from illness to economy to politics, God is watching and working.

He is faithful. Are you? It will make a difference!
