All across New Mexico, leaves are shifting towards the warm end of the color scale. Shades of yellow, orange, red, and brown are taking over parts of the state and we still have a few weeks of fall to go!
If you’re in the mood to check out some of the vivid hues from above, you’ll want to check out a few of our favorite overlooks and observation areas that feature New Mexico’s lovely landscape.

There is no experience quite like hearing aspen leaves rustle on a breezy day. Add the glowing gold leaves in autumn and you have something close to paradise. The Aspen Vista Picnic Ground is just a half-hour drive from Santa Fe and the views here are the perfect reason to pack a lunch and hit the road.

Don’t think northern New Mexico is the only place to find changing leaves! Cloudcroft is just one destination where you’ll find the fall hues showing off their warm tones and that includes this observation point just outside town. In fact, you’ll be treated to the lovely fall colors and the historic railroad trestle located here.

On Google, you’ll find this location as “Roadside Viewpoint” but that doesn’t even come close to describing the incredible views you’ll find here. The cottonwoods lining the river look absolutely stunning once fall kicks in and you’ll see why Georgia O’Keefe was so inspired by this area.

Aspen tower overhead in this area and you know what that means: a glimmering, intriguing view that is sure to leave you spellbound. Stop at this overlook—located just around the corner from the Aspen Vista Picnic area—and you’ll find an incredible view of the landscape changing with the seasons.

Sitting just a short drive from Los Alamos and Santa Fe, White Rock Overlook offers a spectacular view of the Rio Grande flowing through Mortandad Canyon. In fall, you’ll see the trees glowing shades of yellow along the winding river.
