We had a great turnout at the “Queen Up the Guads” event this past weekend. This is the second of three major cleanups taking place around Eddy County. The event was hosted by Eddy County, the Lincoln National Forest, Keep Carlsbad Beautiful, Campfire Industries/Devolved Media and the City of Carlsbad.
Sponsors included XTO Energy, the Carlsbad Soil and Water Conservation District, Henry’s BBQ, Thirsty’s, Sweet Confections and Agave Transportation. Little Digger Man and JN Services provided equipment. Thanks to the Living Desert, GLL, Celtech, the Trinity, YellowBrix, Java Nicks, Milton’s, Guadalupe Brewing Company, Balzano Pumpkin Patch, Southern Tire Mart and Joe’s Brew for making raffle donations. More than 2 ½ tons of debris was removed from the area.
Our next Cleanup project is Riverblitz Round 2 on Oct. 10. This will focus on riverfront areas all around Carlsbad. Pick-up of supplies will begin at 7 a.m. Saturday at the Riverwalk Recreation Center. Children should be accompanied by an adult. For more info, please call Mary Garwood @ 575.302.7665 or email firstname.lastname@example.org. Of course, our cleanup efforts will not be done after Riverblitz, and we look forward to many more projects that make Carlsbad and the surrounding area clean and beautiful.
