Artesia, NM – Private donors are teaming up with the City of Artesia to re-invest in our community parks. First park on the list is Jamaica Park!
Discussions among donors began two years ago regarding renovating Artesia parks and the impact they may have on quality of life for Artesians. There was no doubt in anyone’s mind that investing in our community parks would be transformative. In this day and age, where health and wellness are at the top of everyone’s list, great park spaces become more important than ever.
We need our parks to be more than green spaces; we need them to be play environments. Play environments promote mental, physical, and emotional health. They also improve cognitive development, social skills, and sensory skills.
A local, private foundation engaged MRWM, Landscape Architects in Albuquerque, New Mexico to provide the design for Jamaica Park. MRWM creates spaces that capture the imagination and stimulate the senses, include people of all ages, abilities, and interests, and provide opportunities for users to connect with nature. As a landscape architecture practice in the desert Southwest, MRWM considers both science and art to be their media and believe landscapes should be pragmatic, beautiful, innovative, and thoughtful.
Plans for Jamaica park include a walking path, a new play area with an oodle swing, adventure scape climber and double swoosh slide among many other fun components. This renovation sets new standards for Artesia Park development, utilizing modern techniques for play design and maintenance practices.
Construction begins Mid-May and expected completion is Fall 2020. We need YOUR voice
